Stephen J. “Steve” Downer, 57, of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 in his home.

He leaves his daughters, Diann and Ashley Downer, both of Maryland, with his wife Maria Downer; his siblings, Robert Downer, Thomas Downer, and Catherine Vandell and her partner Joseph Belloli; a nephew, Shawn Vandell; and several friends.

Steve was born in Worcester to the late Donald R. and Joan L. (LaBombard) Downer. He was raised and educated in Auburn, graduating with AHS’s Class of 1984. He later received his Bachelor’s degree from Quinsigamond Community College.

He enjoyed his twenty years dedicated to the U.S. Navy, retiring in 2004.

In his free time, Steve enjoyed remote control airplanes, computers, and loved food, especially seafood and barbeque.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org/donate).

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Downer family from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, May 5, 2023 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, MA.
