     Ruth V. (Pitman) Johnson, 92, a long time Holden resident, died peacefully on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital, Windsor, VT. Ruth was born in Worcester, the daughter of Myrtle J. (Jeffrey) and James A. Pitman. She lived in Holden before moving to Vermont in 2013.

​Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Johnson Sr. in 2012. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, James E. Johnson and his wife, Diane of Walpole, NH; her daughter, Donna Eckert and her husband, Tom of Morrisville, VT; her daughter- in-law, Kathy Johnson of Denver, CO; her grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson Lipke, Erik Johnson, Lauren Johnson Smith, Sarah Johnson, Sam Eckert and Allison Eckert; and her great grandchildren, Gillian and Aiden Frazier, Cameron, MacKenna , Emily and Liam Johnson and Lucas Lipke. Ruth was also predeceased by her son, Andrew Johnson Jr.; her daughter, Glenna J. Johnson; her brother, James A. Pitman and her sister, Betty Pitman.

​Ruth graduated from Holden High School with the class of 1943. She went on to proudly serve her country by enlisting in the United States Navy as a WAVE. Ruth studied at Bryant and Stratton College in Boston before working for the Wachusett Regional High School for over twenty years. She was affectionately known there as “Mrs. J.” and could be found at any sporting or theatre event, supporting the students. Ruth had a love and passion for all sports and any competitive game. She loved to swim and was active in a synchronized swimming group at the Worcester Greendale YMCA. She cheered for the Red Sox and the Patriots and also relished any opportunity to play a board game or complete a jig saw puzzle. Ruth will also be dearly missed by her many friends at the Village at Cedar Hill Community in Windsor, VT where she had been an active resident for the past 4 years.

​Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial calling hours for Ruth from 10 am to 12 noon on Friday, April , 28, 2017 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A memorial service will follow at noon. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave., Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fall Mountain Special Olympics, 25 Mountain View Rd, North Walpole, NH 03609.
