Rita Dolores Gain, 90, passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on Feb. 1st, after a brief illness.

Rita is survived by six children, Karen Alexander her husband, David and grandson, Christopher Talbot of Millbury with whom she lived; William B. Gain, III and his wife, Danielle of Mendon, Tammy Lizotte of Whitinsville, Stephen Gain, Lisa Booth and her husband, Jim of Rochdale and Jon Gain of Millbury; her sister, Sheila Williams of FL; many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.  She is predeceased by her husband, William B. Gain, Jr.; a daughter, Donna Cournoyer, a granddaughter, Trisha Gain, a son-in-law, Mark Lizzotte, Sr., a brother, Robert Bell and his wife, Patricia and sisters, Lorraine Mooney and Sally Bell.

Rita enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s events over the years.  She was a big supporter of her grandson, Christopher’s football career and was proud he went on to play college football for Worcester State as an offensive lineman.  The two of them had a unique bond and acted more like siblings than grandmother and grandson. She was his biggest supporter.

Rita also had a special bond with her close friends, Kelly and Evan Jones.  They all enjoyed sitting out on the back deck of her home in the summer months sharing a glass of wine, watching the birds gather on Karen’s many bird feeders and the sunset reflecting off the lake.  She also leaves a longtime friend, Beverly Gilbert.

Rita was a stay-at-home mother early in life and then later worked at S&D Spinning Mill for 49 years, retiring in March 2020.  She enjoyed bowling with her husband in the Sunday Night League.  Rita loved spending time with her family at all the gatherings at the family home in Millbury.

Family and friends are invited to remember Rita’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Tuesday, Feb. 6th from 5 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.  Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 7th at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Assumption Church, 10 Waters Street, Millbury. Burial will follow in WCMP, Paxton.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association or American Heart Association.
