Phyllis M. (Beland) Bowker Spofford, 95, a longtime Paxton resident, died peacefully on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Blaire House of Worcester, where she was lovingly cared for the past year.

She will be forever missed by her three children, Pamela S. White and her fiancée, Walter Magnusson of Shrewsbury, Wendy A. Katrenak and her husband, Paul of Florida and Karl Bowker and his wife, Gail of Illinois; her 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was the beloved wife of the late Calvin S. Bowker, Sr. and her second husband, Leslie Spofford. She was also predeceased by her son, Calvin S. Bowker, Jr., her brother, Donald Beland.

Phyllis was born and raised in Worcester, a daughter of the late Leon and Mabel (Lygdman) Beland. She graduated from South High School.

Phyllis worked most of her life in office settings around Worcester. Her final, and favorite job was working as the secretary to the Dean of Students at Anna Maria College, Paxton. Never one to sit around, Phyllis retired to her home in Paxton where she tenderly cared for her gardens as well as her canine companions, often several at a time. She also found time to travel and volunteer, spending many hours at the former Foothills Theater and during the special mailings at Mechanics Hall.

Phyllis’ family would like to thank the nurses and CNA’s at the Blaire House as well as the staff of New England Hospice for the tender and compassionate care for Phyllis during her final days.

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor, remember and celebrate Phyllis’ life during a visiting hour from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, November 26th at the Lindquist – Lundin Funeral Home, 36 Butler Street, Worcester. A prayer service will then be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Donations in Phyllis’ memory may be sent to the Worcester Animal Rescue League (www.worcesterarl.org), 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
