Subscription Update Obituary

     Philip C. Price, Sr. 84, of Worcester passed away peacefully December 13, 2017 with his family by his side.

Phil was born and raised in Worcester one of nine children of Elwood B. Price, Sr. and Muriel E. (Anderson) Price.  He graduated from Commerce High School class of 1951 where he was a standout  athlete and basketball player.  Phil then joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving in Germany.  Upon discharge Phil returned home and married his sweetheart Elsie Louise Toney. They then settled in Worcester to raise their large family.

Phil began his employed years with L. Farber Leather Company, then accepting a position with the Commonwealth of Mass, Department of Youth Services as an Assistant Detention Coordinator for over 30 years retiring in 1990.   Unable to just sit in retirement, Phil then worked for the City of Worcester part-time as a bus monitor.

Phil is survived by his wife of 65 years, (Elsie) Louise; nine blessed children, Philip C. Price, Jr. and his wife Cynthia, Louise E. Jones and her husband Herbert, all of Worcester, Carol A. Johnson and Yvonne C. Price both of Los Angeles,  Mark S. Price of Florida,  Robert G. Price of CT, twin daughters, Sharon A. Broadard and her husband Bruce of Worcester, Karon D. Craft Fournier and her husband Robert of Oxford, and Rodney E. Price of Grafton; five siblings, Kenneth “BooBoo” Price, Gerald “Bowie” Price, and Muriel B. “Peanie” Price Geter all of Worcester, Geraldine “Sissy” Jackson of Los Angeles and Thomas Price of New Jersey; 29 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  A grandson, Clayton Price, passed away November 6th, Brothers Elwood “Bunny” Price Jr, and Richard Price as well as a sister, Beverly  Levicie also pre deceased him.

Philip was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Worcester Chapter 4, DAV.  He co-founded and served as the first post commander of the VFW, Post 312 in Worcester.  A good athlete, Philip played semiprofessional football, and played in the Worcester Parks league as a player and later a coach for the Brotherhood team.   He was a member of the Lincoln Square Boys Club, where he played basketball and mentored young men in life.  A joyful man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and family.  Phil’s entire life was centered around them.  Having his family by his side and around him was his proudest moments.  He was also devoted to his position, where he could help children that traveled the wrong road, helping to get them back on the right path in life.

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Monday, December 18th from 4pm to 8pm at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.   His funeral will be held Tuesday, December 19thfrom the funeral home with a procession beginning at 9:30am to St Peters Church, 931 Main St where his celebration of life mass will be held at 10:00am.  Burial with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.   In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name may be made to the VNA Hospice, Rose Monahan House, 10 Judith Road Worcester, the Jewish Home Healthcare, 629 Salisbury St, or St Peters Church, 931 Main St Worcester.
