Subscription Update Obituary

     Patricia “Pat” L. McHugh, died peacefully in her home on Monday, April 11, 2016 with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Robert J. McHugh, Sr. with whom she celebrated 69 amazing years of marriage.

Born in Maywood, Illinois, April 16, 1928, Pat was the daughter of Georgia and Eli Schutt and was the youngest of eight siblings all of whom predeceased her. In her teens, Pat was an original Rosie the Riveter, working an assembly line during WWII supplying our military with valuable parts needed to win the war. It was on a Naval base in Chicago that Pat met the love of her life, Bob. Soon after, Bob shipped out to serve his country and Pat moved from Chicago to Worcester to await the arrival home of her fiancé from WWII. The two married on August 10, 1946 in Immaculate Conception Church and settled in the North End of Worcester to start a family.

Pat was a devoted wife, mother, friend and faithful servant of our Lord. Throughout her life she gave tirelessly of herself to her family, friends and strangers in need. Those who got the opportunity to meet her knew she was a true earth angel. She cared for ALL the kids in the North End and had a fierce devotion for those she loved. An incredible self-taught seamstress, Pat worked hours on end making costumes, uniforms, clothes, gloves, scarfs and Teddy Bears for her “kids” from the North End. Pat was known as “Mom” to many, as she loved ALL as if they were her own. She was an incredible cook & a master baker, surprising all of us with her remarkable cakes. Her faith and incredible talent will never be forgotten. Many broke bread at her table, many shared in her unyielding love. Pat devoted her time to others, her family, her church and to the elderly. She worked at Park Hill Manor and Lincoln Nursing Home as an activities director for many years. She brought incredible joy to anyone with whom she touched. Her home was warm and filled with laughter her heart was huge filled with unwavering faith and a deep love for all.

Pat is survived by her adoring husband Robert, her loving children; Linda M. Keene, her husband Tom, Edward G. McHugh his wife Erin and Patricia “Giggles” A. McHugh and her partner Tim Perpall. Pat’s first born son, Robert J. McHugh, Jr. died in April 1995, her granddaughter Emily Murphy died in August of 1988 she is now reunited with both in heaven. Pat is also survived by her loving grandchildren who meant the world to her; Robert J. McHugh III, his wife Lisa, Kathleen T. Gaudette her partner Darryl Henry, Michael McHugh, Megan McHugh Demalia her husband John, Mackenzie McHugh, Katherine Murphy and her fiancée Bethany Paquin and Mark R. Brown. She also leaves three beautiful great-grandchildren whom she adored; Emily, Joey and Benjamin Demalia. Pat was the matriarch of her family and leaves many nieces, nephews, friends and adopted children whom she cherished and whom cherished her.

Pat’s funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester, Pat’s beloved Pastor Fr. Riley will officiate. Burial will be immediately following at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Family and friends are invited to gather with her family to celebrate her life at Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street, Worcester on Wednesday April 13, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA Care Network and Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA. 01608. Pat’s family would like to extend a blessed thank you to the entire Worcester VNA Care Network & Hospice team for all the love and support provided to Pat and her family during her journey home. We’d also like to extend our deep gratitude to her aides Beverly from Home Staff; Mary, Lisa, Jill, Laura and Johnathan from Laura’s Guardian Angels – we were all blessed by your presence and love. Thank you!

“To live in the hearts of those who love us is never to die.” You will live on, and until we meet again, rest sweet Wife, sweet Mother, sweet Grand-Mother, sweet Friend, sweet Faithful Servant. We will miss you – thank you for your love.
