Orton Butler passed away on February 20, 2018 after a brief illness. His wife, Betty (Johnson) Butler predeceased him in 2009. He leaves his daughters, Marilyn Butler and her husband, Mark Mancevice of Worcester, and Kathryn Butler of New London, NH, a granddaughter, Anika Sabin of Brooklyn, NY, and nieces, Elizabeth Johnson and Elaine Johnson both of Holden.

Orton earned degrees at Oberlin College, Clark University, and Ohio State University. He served in the Army in WW2 and received two bronze stars. He was a professor at Memphis State University until his retirement in 1982 and a founding member of the Marion Oaks Community UCC Church in Ocala, FL.

Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton on April 30 at 11:00 a.m. A memorial service for Orton C. Butler will be held at the Chaffins Congregational Church in Holden on Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m.
