Michael D. Palmer, 58, of Worcester, formerly a long-time resident of Auburn, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Saint Vincent Hospital.

Michael is survived by the many people that loved him, including his children, Stefani, Nicole, and Matthew Palmer, all of Auburn; his parents, Clayton and Carol (Carter) Palmer of Worcester; his former wife and still close friend, Michelle (Trainque) Palmer of Auburn; a brother, Stephen Palmer of McKinney, TX; four sisters, Linda Morrison and Christine Palmer, both of Worcester, and Denise Bowie and Donna Huff, both of McKinney, TX; his business partner and trusted friend, Nicholas Hammond of Auburn; his faithful pup Layla; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was born and raised in Worcester; and graduated from Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury.  He then matriculated into Assumption College where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-Med Studies; eventually realizing his affinity for numbers he entered New England School of Accounting, where he earned his Certificate in Accounting; and he later earned a Masters’ Degree in Business Administration from Nichols College.

Michael was a partner in the accounting firm of Palmer-Hammond Tax Services in Auburn, having previously combined his medical knowledge with his proficiency in accounting as an accountant at UMass-Memorial Healthcare in Worcester.  He had also worked for many years in Rhode Island at Life Span Corporations.

Michael loved to be with people.  He found great satisfaction in the special times he spent with his children, his family, and his friends.  He lived nearly thirty years in Auburn, where he raised his family, attended church at Saint Joseph, and became an integral part of town life.

He will be remembered fondly, by hundreds of young people in Auburn, who had him as a Little League Coach; especially those players that were on one of many championship teams.  He was a member of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, enjoyed staying fit, and traveling throughout America and abroad.  He loved to cook special gourmet meals and specialty breads; he was a handy-man, always tinkering, even when something wasn’t broken.

The family would like to thank the caring people at Saint Vincent Hospital, especially the teams in the Dialysis Unit and Critical Care Unit.  Their care and friendship to Michael and his family will always be remembered.

Calling Hours for Michael, where family and friends can gather to remember his life will be held on Thursday, December 14, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  His Funeral will be on Friday, December 15, departing the funeral home at 9:30 a.m., in procession for a 10 a.m. Mass at Saint Joseph Church, 189 Oxford Street, Auburn, MA 01501.  Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The American Diabetes Association by visiting www.diabetes.org, or The National Kidney Foundation by visiting www.kidney.org, or to the Critical Care Unit at Saint Vincent Hospital, 123 Summer Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
