Laura Barchard-O’Leary, 48, of Worcester, died Sunday, January 8, 2017 at home after a long battle with complications of Lupus Disease.

She leaves her husband and best friend of 26 years, William J. O’Leary Jr.; three children, Erin O’Leary of Worcester, Amanda Lavoie of Springfield and Joseph Barchard. She was the sister of Donald, John, Clare and Lisa Barchard. She also leaves dear friends Francis Bjorndal and Sue Vinton along with numerous loving family and friends.

Laura grew up in Lowell where she attended grammar and high schools. She later moved to Worcester and graduated from Quinsigamond Community College. She worked in the field of home health care for many years as an aide and a supervisor, primarily for Home Staff of Massachusetts, before retiring ten years ago due to her own health issues.

Laura loved to cook for her family and friends. In spite of her illness she was always willing to help others who needed her generous and loving support. She enjoyed the great outdoors from hiking the mountains of New England to walking the beaches of the New England coast. Laura will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.

The family would like to thank Doctor Fournier, Hospice, UMass memorial 2-CCU for their extended care and support over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Lupus Foundation of New England.

Calling hours will be held Friday, January 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Saturday, January 14, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
