Subscription Update Obituary

Josephine (Podmostka) Hackett, 97, of Worcester passed away at home surrounded by her children on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Her husband of 60 years, John E. Hackett, Sr., died on August 13, 2018. Josephine was born in Worcester a daughter of Marcin and Waleria (Siwicka) Podmostka.

Josephine worked as a bookkeeper for many years at J. C. Campbell Paper Company. Previously, she worked at Norton Company. She was a current member of Christ the King Parish, Worcester. Josephine was a graduate of the former High School of Commerce.

Josephine is survived by her daughter, Christine Nichols and her husband, Jeffrey; her daughter, Johanna Hackett; her daughter, Patricia Bruchmann and her husband, Ronald; her son, John E. Hackett, Jr. and his wife Brenda; eight grandchildren, David, John, Brian, and Joseph Nichols, Alexis, Kyle, Cole, and Camden Hackett. Josephine also leaves seven great-grandchildren, Caleb, Samuel, Timothy, Daniel, Molly, Charlotte, and Riley. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Zygmunt F. Podmostka and Blanche Jason. Josephine also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Josephine enjoyed preparing meals from her Polish heritage, knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting in the style of Bob Ross, reading, gardening, antiquing and taking bus trips. Above all, her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the loves of her life.

The funeral will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023 from Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward Street, Worcester with a Mass at 11:00 A.M. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours are from 8:30 to 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 23, 2023 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606.
