Subscription Update Obituary

     John S. Galeckas, 95, a resident of the Colony Homes in Holden, passed away peacefully at home under the loving care of his family on Tuesday, August 29, 2017.  Born and raised in Worcester, he was the son of Lithuanian immigrants Joseph and Margaret (Vasilauskas) Galeckas, and lived in Worcester before moving to Holden in 1993.  John worked for the Botwinik Brothers in Worcester for 27 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
His wife of 68 years, Lea M. (Tetreault) Galeckas, died in 2012.  He leaves a son, Stephen A. Galeckas and his wife, Donna of Oxford; a daughter, Elaine J. Songy and her husband, Alfred “Buddy” Songy of Spencer; a sister, Mildred Wade of Villa Rica, Georgia; 4 grandchildren, Sherill, Andrew, John and Jeremy; 5 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Katelyn, Aiden, Josephine and Adeline; and many nephews and nieces.  Four brothers, Peter Galeckas, Joseph Galeckas, Bernard Galeckas, Albert Gale and Charles Blodgett; and three sisters, Frances Kuklierus, Helen Gemboski and Monica Kriff predeceased him.
A private graveside service  will be held at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton.  Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
