James T. Correia, 50, of Holden, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 22, 2016. He leaves his wife and partner of 22 years, Patricia, many friends, colleagues and loved ones. He was the son of Anthony J. and Clare (Grace) Correia.

Jim graduated from Bishop Stang High School, Dartmouth, in 1984, where he was voted “most service to the school”. He went on to graduate from the Urban Studies Department at Worcester State College in 1992. While at WSC, Jim was involved with the school’s radio station and proudly wore the Lancers’ jersey #67. He was a devoted alumnus of the Worcester State University Lancer football program having played on the 1984 National Collegiate Championship club team. Jim organized the 20th reunion of his teammates in 2004 and was instrumental in helping to organize more recent gatherings at the University. Jim, along with his championship teammates, was to be inducted into the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, November 5, 2016.

He entered the Army National Guard of Massachusetts in 1984 and served as an armor crewman and tank service mechanic in the 110th Cavalry Division in Hudson until 1992 and continued to be a supporter of local military veterans’ support organizations. Jim was currently working for Volkswagen, Corp. as a Northeast Region Service Coach, and was owner/operator of White’s Landing in Brookfield, where he had been working on an extensive renovation over the past five years and became known for his historic river cruises. He held a Mass Construction Supervisor License and was a Stage Hand for Central Mass Local Union 96 at the DCU Center.

Jim had a life-long love for stock car racing, old cars, history and music. He was a fixer and a builder, and often described his service coach work as “helping to make people better”. His hope for healing was spread wide across the region.

Jim was a devout Catholic often frequenting St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer, his place of respite and had a special devotion to the study of the catechism, his rosary beads, divine mercy, and the holy Mass.

Calling hours will be held Friday, November 4, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 35 Hamilton St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WSU Football, C/O Worcester State University Advancement, 486 Chandler St., Worcester, MA 01602; and/or to Project New Hope, 90 James St., Suite 157, Worcester, MA. 01603.
