Helen M. (George) Perkins, 92, passed away in Webster Manor Healthcare Center on Friday, November 6, 2015. Her beloved husband, Lester O. Perkins, preceded her in death in 1977.

Born in Worcester on December 29, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Michael) George. She lived in Oxford before moving to Millbury in 1962.

Helen was employed as a housekeeper for several families in the Worcester area, and so thoroughly enjoyed what she did that she worked well into her 70’s. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Millbury Senior Center and was honored to be named “Volunteer of the Month” in November, 2002. She loved singing, dancing, baking and collecting new recipes.

Our mother was a strong, kind woman who was generous and loving to her family and friends. Spending time with her grandchildren and having them over to her house on weekends gave her great happiness and her grandchildren absolutely adored her. Some of their fondest memories of her were of her cooking her famous pancakes, her fried dough, her fabulous meat pies, and her limitless patience with them.

Helen was also a woman of deep faith in God, even during the most difficult times of her life, and that faith never wavered. We will miss her terribly, but we know that she is now in the hands of a loving God, enjoying the rewards He gives to his good and faithful servants.

We say this to our family and friends: If you see a penny on the ground, pick it up and think of our Mom…”Pennies from Heaven”.

Helen leaves five children: Robert L. Perkins of Worcester; Darlene H. Naleski and her husband, Chet, of Auburn; Donna M. Hassett and her husband, Michael, of Webster; Ronald E. Perkins, also of Worcester; and David W. Perkins and his wife, Pamela, of Millbury. She also leaves eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Josephine Atkins of Worcester.

Helen’s funeral will be Tuesday, November 10, from Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main St., with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. Brigid’s Catholic Church, 59 Main St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting hours in the funeral home will be Monday, November 9, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.

Helen hoped that, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory would be made to the American Cancer Society , 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
