Subscription Update Obituary

   Harry A. Beland, 81, of Fortier Street, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, in his home after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norma S. (Brunelle) Beland of Worcester; two sons: David Beland of Worcester and Donald Beland and his wife Jayne of Florida; five daughters: Susan Abraham of Worcester, Donna McGrath and her husband Nick of Webster, Patricia Lavallee and her husband Robert of Oxford, Cynthia Richards and her husband Donald of Oxford, and Pamela Bonneville and her husband John of Webster; a brother, Joseph Beland and his wife Pauline of Florida; five sisters: Lorraine Berthiaume and her husband Henry of Florida, Joan Hicks of Mendon, Barbara Faford and her husband Paul of Charlton, and Linda Faford and her husband Peter of Haiti; 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Robichaud of Auburn. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Alphonse H. and Gladys (Stapleton) Beland, and lived most of his life in Worcester. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

   Mr. Beland was a machinist and toolmaker at Wyman Gordon Co. in Worcester for 38 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Worcester and a member of Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of the English Social Club in Worcester. Mr. Beland enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the Boston Red Sox.

   A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2009, at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Sunday, January 18, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
