Frederick E. Coe, Jr., age 101 of Brewster died peacefully August 4, 2017. Born May 15, 1916 he survived a brother and four sisters. Born to Frederick Edward Coe and Mary Elizabeth (Morey) Coe. Beloved husband of the late Evelyn D. (Hungerford) Coe of Worcester, Frederick is survived by Dean M. Coe of Sandwich, MA, David E. and Gail Anderson Coe of North Falmouth, MA and S. Douglas and Susan Morphew Coe of Crystal Lake, Il. and by his faithful companion, Marion L. Kennedy of Orleans, MA.

Graduates of Dean Academy, Fred and Evie Coe relocated from Holden, MA to Eastham, MA in 1978.

Mr. Coe was in human resource management in Worcester at Norton Company for 30 years and Warner-Swasey Company and Coppus Engineering. He continued his education through the American Management Association, Boston University, Northeastern University and the Yale School of Alcoholic Studies.

He was a board member of several Worcester area organizations including: The Greendale YMCA, The United Way, Kiwanis Club, the Council of Alcoholism, NAACP, Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and the Personnel Management Council of Worcester. He was a member of the Athelstan Lodge, AF & AM, Scottish Rite Consistory of Worcester and a 32nd degree Mason. He received his 70-year pin from the Blue Lodge. He was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Worcester.

Upon moving to Eastham, his community involvement and leadership continued. He served the Town of Eastham as a member of the Economic Development Committee, a member of The Executive Search Committee and as Chair of the Personnel Committee.

An active member of The Federated Church of Orleans, he also enjoyed his work with Habitat for Humanity. In 1986 Evie and Fred established the Coe Family Fund to redirect family gift giving toward a variety of non-profit organizations.

He leaves 7 grandchildren and 11.5 great grandchildren. His families’ most cherished and memorable moments occurred while fishing in town cove, Orleans, clamming or playing 4-square on the flats at Boat Meadow or checking his lobster traps in his small aluminum skiff.

His secret to 101 years of longevity was attributable to, “being proud, stubborn and driven to make a difference.”

A celebration of Fred Coe’s life will be held at the Orleans Federated Church September 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat For Humanity of Cape Cod.
