Subscription Update Obituary

     Dorothy L. (Cocker) Butkevich, 83 of Worcester, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Saint Vincent’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy’s husband of forty-four years, Peter A. Butkevich, passed away on August 28, 2000. She is survived by her four daughters, Kathy Harrington and her husband Timothy of Worcester, Tammi Rudge and her husband Brian of Millbury, Cindy Wolanin and her husband Lee of Barre and Patti Kania and her husband Chris of Sutton; eight grandchildren, Erin Harrington and her husband George Newton, Timothy Harrington, Jr. and his wife Allyson, Mark and Jeffrey Rudge, Tyler and Cooper Wolanin, Nicholas Kania and his wife Amanda and Jessica Kania; three great grandchildren, Claire and Jack Newton and Madison Kania; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two sons, Joseph John Butkevich whom passed at infancy and Joseph Peter Butkevich who passed in 1986; four brothers, Harold, Donald, Robert and Allison M. Cocker, Jr.; four sisters, Shirley Campbell, Jean O’Clair, Sue Vincequere and Patricia Gordon.

Dorothy was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Allison and Mary Ruth (Foster) Cocker, Sr. She graduated from David Hale Fanning Trade High School for Girls and has lived here all her life. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and Nana. She devoted most of her time to spending time with family especially her grandchildren and was known to be the best “Nana.” She loved going to the casino and playing bingo and jigsaw puzzles.

A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home followed by burial at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Veterans, Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA. 01605.
