Dorothy B. (Tibbetts) Beckwith, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Life Care Center of Auburn, where she has been so lovingly cared for over the past several months.

Dorothy was born in Danvers, a daughter of the late Alvah and Lila B. (Reed) Tibbetts, and spent several years in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, but Rutland has been her home almost 70 years. Recently, Dorothy enjoyed joining the senior’s for lunch and in the past was a member of their walking group. She always responded when the First Congregational Church called for baked goods for their monthly suppers. Dorothy enjoyed taking her turn with the neighborhood in building floats for the Fourth of July. Busy hands is a fitting description of how Dorothy spent countless hours creating beautiful items from knitting and crocheting, as well as sewing, especially all the dance costumes she so skillfully crafted. She also enjoyed tending to her garden, throwing a few strings of bowling now and then, was a member of the Grange in New Hampshire and active in a fife and drum corps many years ago. Many warm and cherished memories were created with Dorothy while the entire family was visiting their family camp on Lake Ossipee in Freedom, NH.

Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Burt W. Beckwith in 2002. She leaves her three daughters, Barbara Ann Holland of Sheldon, VT, Sally Hayden of Rutland and Nancy Jean Meserve and her husband, Larry of Lunenburg; her sister, Mary Rathier of Rhode Island; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four brothers, Ernest, Donald, George and Robert.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to a charity of the donor’s choice . Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
