Subscription Update Obituary

Doris E. (Warden) Leck, 98, formerly of West Boylston and Ashburnham, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Beaumont Nursing Home. She leaves 3 daughters- Kathleen Doherty and husband Jack of Denver, CO, Martha Leck-Leonard and husband Mark Leonard of Belmont, NH, and Patricia Nordberg and husband John of Worcester and Florida; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Sylvia Warden of Sandy Springs GA. She was predeceased by her husband Nelton J. (Joe) Leck and by brother Robert Warden.

Doris was born in Worcester, daughter of the late John and Alma (Fors) Warden. She graduated from South High School in the class of 1940 and from the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. She proudly served her country as a nurse in the US Navy during WWII.

Doris and Joe raised their children in West Boylston. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, where she also served as a Deaconess. She was active in the Camp Fire Girls as a youth and a leader. She owned and managed the “Yarn it All” yarn shop in Leominster. They moved to Sunset Lake in Ashburnham where she enjoyed swimming and canoeing. They traveled the US in their RV and enjoyed many winters in FL. Throughout her life she kept her hands busy with many types of handwork including tatting, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service and burial will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 12:00 noon in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements.
