Subscription Update Obituary

     Donald “Don” G. Chisholm of 3160 Gracefield Rd. in Silver Spring, MD formerly of 9 Donald Ave. in Holden passed away on April 9, 2015 at the age of 94.

He was recently predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Betty. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Glenn Scimonelli of Columbia, MD; his daughter, Mother Mary of the Convent of the Meeting of the Lord in Stanwood, WA; and his daughter, Valerie Chisholm of Bloomfield, CT; four grandchildren, David, Andrea, Ian, and Katherine. His son, David, predeceased him in November 2000.

Don was born the son of Maude N. and Guy T. Chisholm in Malden. He was educated in the Malden school system and received B.S. and MBA degrees from Boston University and was a certified public accountant. During WWII Don served in the U.S. Navy for 3 ½ years aboard minesweepers, attaining the rank of LTJG. His fleet was instrumental in the Mediterranean preceding the invasion of Sicily. Later he was transferred to the Pacific Theater at Palau during the final year of the war.

Don was employed as a tax accountant with Norton/Saint-Gobain for 32 years. He was active for many years in the Holden youth baseball program and was a member of the Second Church of Christ, Scientist in Worcester and First Church of Christ, Scientist in Silver Spring, MD.

Don was a Past Master of the Rufus Putnam Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. in Rutland. He was a member of the Valley of Worcester Scottish Rite and took his 32° in the Valley of Springfield in 1978. He served as the Sovereign Prince of Goddard Council Princes of Jerusalem in 1992 and was conferred the 33° and made an Honorary Member of Supreme Council, 33° NMJ in 1996.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Monday, April 20, from 11 to 12 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, please send a monetary contribution to the charity of your choice .
