Dennis J. Halsdorff, 66, of Fiskdale, formerly a resident of North Oxford for nearly 30 years, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.

He leaves four children, Dennis J. Halsdorff, II of Fiskdale, Colleen D. Palacios and her husband Anthony of Worcester, Erin C. Halsdorff of Ware, and Meaghan J. Oldenburg and her significant other, Josh Fickett of Fiskdale; his grandchildren, Hunter W. Oldenburg and Clover J. Palacios; a brother, Russell J. Halsdorff and his wife, Barbara of Apple Valley, California; a sister in law, Ellen Halsdorff of Douglas and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean M. Halsdorff, and a brother, Richard P. Halsdorff of Douglas.

Dennis was born in Holden, son of the late Benjamin F. and Gloria T. (Menard) Halsdorff. He graduated from Auburn High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College. He met his sweetheart, Jeannie, while working together at a parking garage in downtown Worcester. After years of fun camping and beach trips, they got married on October 16th, 1977, and spent 37 wonderful years together, until Jean’s passing in 2014. From 1978 to 2015, Dennis worked for UMass Memorial Medical Center (formerly Memorial Hospital), as a groundskeeper/mechanic, and then in transportation services before retiring. He took on all the overtime hours available to provide for his growing family.

Some of Dennis’ hobbies included coin-collecting, wood-working, penny slots at the casino, reading, and DIY home-improvement projects. He was a jack of all trades and his family’s handyman. He loved the outdoors, even if it was just hanging out in his yard. Dennis had a quiet and sarcastic sense of humor. He had a warm heart and a quick wit. He was simultaneously generous and thrifty. Dennis set strong examples for his children about how to live a beautiful and meaningful life. They admired him through and through, and they’ll never be the same without him.

Dennis’ visiting hours will be on Friday, March 1st from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 10:00 am at St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Tri-Valley, Inc., 10 Mill Street, Dudley, MA 01571.
