Subscription Update Obituary

     David J. Alcorn, 84, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 25 at UMASS Medical Center.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth J. (Dodd) Alcorn; four sons, Kenneth D. Alcorn and his wife Debora of Shrewsbury, Daniel P. Alcorn and his wife Lorrie of Rochdale, Michael J. Alcorn and his wife Deborah of Leicester, and Donald P. Alcorn and his wife Barbara of Rochdale; four grandchildren, Michael Alcorn Jr., Paul Alcorn and his wife Tara, Lauren Alcorn, and Stephen Alcorn; a sister-in-law, Christine Alcorn of Worcester; several nephews and nieces, as well as many cousins in Ireland. Two brothers, Samuel Alcorn and Harold W. Alcorn, and a sister, Jane Breau predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Samuel and Ida Mae (Sherlock) Alcorn and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He served in the Naval Reserves for 23 years and was called to active duty as a Seabee in Gulfport, Mississippi, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer.

David was head electrician for W.P.I. for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. He was a Master Electrician for over 45 years. He was a founding member and served on the board of trustees of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale, the Worcester County Electric League, and an avid reader. David loved to travel. He visited all 48 continental states, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Great Britain, and Ireland. He enjoyed keeping busy with projects around his home and spending time in the summer at the family camp in Boylston. David was most proud, above all things, of his four sons and being a good family man.

The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, September 30, 11am at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1048 Main Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting Hours are Tuesday, September 29 from 5 to 7pm, at CALLAHAN~FAY~CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, 01605.
