     Cornelius Boyd “Neak” or “Connie” Spencer, of Worcester, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, November 10, 2018.  Cornelius was the son of the late, Flager and Lillie Spencer.  He was born in Darlington County, SC.Cornelius leaves his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Edna P. Spencer.  He is survived by many nieces and nephews including, Tracey Hathaway, for her exceptional support and care and George Hathaway, who was always willing to help.  Cornelius was predeceased by his daughter, Olivia R. Spencer-Marley, and by his brothers, Zera, Willie, and Croslie Spencer.He was husband, friend, father, brother, and uncle; he loved them all as they loved him.  Cornelius was an avid story teller who thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories about his home town of Hartsville, SC, and the wonderful people he grew up with in his home town.  In addition to his love of God and family, he enjoyed traveling, and traveled throughout Western Europe, South Africa, Egypt, The Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, and much of the United States.  He also enjoyed fishing and gardening, raising vegetables and prime Dinner Plate Dahlias.

He was a member of the Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons, of Darlington, South Carolina, and past member of West Boylston VFW Post 6907.  He was a World War II Veteran, who served in the Pacific Theatre.

Cornelius worked for twenty-seven years for Clark University as a facilities supervisor, before retiring.  He life will be celebrated by all who knew him and miss him.  The family would like to say a very special “thank you” to the friends who gave so freely of their time, affection, and chicken soup.  You also helped keep joy in our lives.

Calling Hours for Cornelius will be held on Thursday, November 15, from 9:30 a.m. until his Funeral Services begins at 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park.

He loved flowers, however, contributions may be made to the Worcester State University, Olivia Rochelle Spencer Memorial Scholarship Fund.
