Carol J. “Penny” (Jacobson) Copeland, 83 passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester. A lifelong resident of Worcester, Carol was the daughter of the late Gustaf A. and Josephine (Connell) Jacobson.

Penny, as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, graduated from Commerce High School. As a young woman, Penny met her future husband, Ronald Copeland while working at the former Capital Theater. They went on to marry and settle in the Quinsigamond Village area of the city, where they lived for 50 years. Penny and Ron began their family, and soon their two beautiful daughters arrived. She was devoted to her family, a trait that continued throughout her life. Penny returned to working outside the home. Her love of children led her to become a pre-school teacher for the Emanuel Lutheran Church Preschool in Worcester, where she was a faithful church member. She later worked for the Lutheran Home and later, the former Gift Chalet in Auburn. Penny also spent many years watching her own grandchildren as they were growing up. As a family, they enjoyed their special trips and vacations, especially to Dennisport on Cape Cod. Later, Penny and Ron purchased a summer spot in Wells, Maine, where she enjoyed many special friendships with her new neighbors. Penny loved visiting her longtime friend, Janet at Ramshorn Lake in Millbury as well as the special time she spent with her dearest friend, Teri on Cape Cod. Penny was an avid Bingo player and was known by her family and friends as a wonderful baker of Swedish desserts.

Penny’s beloved husband, Ron died on February 1, 2018. She will be forever missed and loved by her two daughters, Linda Regan of Maine and Beth Townsend and her husband, Robert of Millbury. She was the special “Nanny” to her five grandchildren, Ben, Michael, Maggie, Robbie and Brian; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Bernie Pianowski.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of Christopher Heights of Worcester and her special caretaker, Janeen with whom Penny had a special bond, as well as the staff of the Rose Monahan Hospice Home for the loving care of Penny in her final days.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Penny’s Life Celebration on Thursday, July 12th at 10 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 200 Greenwood Street, Worcester. Burial in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church or to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Road, Worcester 01602. Arrangements are in the care of the LINDQUIST-LUNDIN Funeral Home, 36 Butler Street, Worcester.
