Bertha “Bert” L. Ostromecky, 87, of Worcester, passed with peace and grace on Friday, December 29, 2017, with her loving family by her side. She leaves 4 loving children, Mary Ellen Nelson and her spouse Richard, her grandson, Sawyer; Kevin Shaughnessy and his wife Donna, grandchildren Michaela and Connor; grandson Matthew Laporte and wife Tonya, Michael Shaughnessy, granddaughter Sara Lebron and spouse Malone; Maureen Shaughnessy and grandchildren Jaime O’Brien, her spouse Matthew, Kerrie Randell and her spouse Steve, Jessica Hilyard, James Hilyard and his wife Kim. Her sister Marion will sorely miss her “best friend”. Bert is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.

Born in Whitinsville, Mass in 1930, she attended Commerce high, married and raised her family in Worcester. She attended night school and was a student at Clark University. Bertha was a proud, valued and dedicated employee of David Clark Company for many years before retiring and moving to Florida in the early 90’s.

Bert enjoyed spending weekends at her camp where she was surrounded by nature and fresh air before retiring to sunny Florida. The ocean was her “happy place” where she loved to swim. She was an avid reader and crossword enthusiast, but her children would say that her favorite pastime was talking to friends and family over the phone. As an active member of the Elks of St Petersburg she loved dancing, karaoke and socializing. She also took pleasure in sewing and crocheting. She loved to travel and was always up for a new adventure.

She was predeceased by her loving spouses, Frank Ostromecky,  John Shaughnessy, Sr.,and her son, John Shaughnessy Jr., as well as her mother, Bertha Jenkins (and siblings Harriet, Eleanor, Tommy, and Bobby).

A private memorial service will be held at The Christian Community Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Broadreach Hospice in Chatham Mass.
