Subscription Update Obituary

     Barbara Ann Swenson, 77, of 29 Old Dudley Road, died peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2017, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – Memorial Campus in Worcester. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Kenneth C. Swenson of Oxford; four children, John P. Swenson and his wife Mary, Heidi A. Swenson, Thomas K. Swenson, and MaryJayne Swenson, all of Oxford; two grandchildren, John P. Swenson Jr. and Hailey A. Swenson, both of Oxford; her brother, Albert Stuart and his wife Nancy; two sisters, Rosalie Furgason and her husband Roland, and Wendy Czajkowski and her husband Dennis; her Goddaughter, Amanda Ward; and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Stuart. She was born in Silverdale, WI, daughter of the late Hiram and Mary (Mankowski) Stuart, and lived in Oxford for over 30 years. She graduated from South Milwaukee High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Worcester State University. She was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Mrs. Swenson was a special education teacher in Worcester for many years. Later, she worked for Digital Equipment Corporation. She was a member of St. Roch’s Church in Oxford where she was also a CCD teacher, attended bible study, sewed costumes, and assisted with the children’s pageant for many years. She was a member of the Oak Creek Historical Society in Wisconsin. She loved reading, drawing, going to the movies, crafts and sewing. Most of all, she enjoyed the company of her family and friends, going to the family cabin in Maine, and spending time with her grandchildren.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours are Friday, September 29, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Roch’s Church, 334 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.
