Antoinette “Toni” Genatossio, 88, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Worcester passed away peacefully Friday, November 18th, 2022, after a long period of health challenges.

Antoinette was born in Worcester, August 19, 1934, one of thirteen children of Italian immigrants Carlo and Caroline (Pasquale) Genatossio.  She graduated from Commerce High School and worked in the administration department of the former Worcester City Hospital before retiring.  She lived in Worcester before moving to Shrewsbury 8 years ago.

Antoinette not blessed with children, is survived by many, nieces and nephews from a large extended family including her nephew Carlo Morrissey who cared for and looked out for her.   She was the last surviving child of Carlo and Caroline, seven brothers, Pantaleo “Leo”, Domenic, Phillip, Anthony, Frank, Lawrence and Louie, and sisters Julia Zona, Anna Toloczko, Lucy Morrissey, and Mary Genatossio, all predeceased her, a brother Frank died in infancy.

Antoinette was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel.  A simple woman with a bright smile and comforting demeaner.  She had the ability to make anyone feel at ease. She was quick to compliment others and make everyone feel special.  Her sense of humor was remarkable given her many health problems. Antoinette was a devoted Catholic and loved stories about the church’s saints and traditions. An avid shopper, she always found a bargain too good to believe. These last several years at the Shrewsbury Nursing home she enjoyed bingo, friendships with residents and staff, many who referred to her as Toni the Tiger.  She was giving, generous and simply liked the peace and quiet of her life. Her family would like to thank the staff of the Shrewsbury Nursing Home for the years of kind, patient care they gave Toni. It was a great comfort knowing she was well cared for by so many good people.

A period of calling hours will be held Friday, November 25th from 9 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am.  Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
