Subscription Update Obituary

     Anna M. (Tangney) Darmody ,84, of Worcester passed away peacefully at her home at Notre Dame Long Term Care with her husband in attendance. She leaves behind her beloved husband of more than sixty years Jermiah (Jerry) Darmody and four children: Mary Troxel and her husband Greg, Stephen Darmody and his wife Maureen, Therese Darmody, and Kathy Greene and her husband Steve. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Caroline Darmody, James Darmody, Mary Grace Darmody, Sean Greene, and Owen Greene. Anna leaves behind two sisters, Catherine Stevens and Eileen Valinski, as well as her sister-in-law Mary (Salvatore)Tangney. She is predeceased by her sister Marie F. Tangney and her brother Eugene Tangney.

She was born on April 27, 1933 in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Michael Tangney and Bridie McCarthy. She married the love of her life, Jerry Darmody, on November, 11, 1955. She was a woman of great faith who never lost her sense of wonder at God’s creation and was ahead of her time as a working mother. She had a long career in the insurance industry. She loved education and graduated from Quinsigamond College in 1978 and Worcester State College in 1982. She discovered her creativity after retirement and actively pursued photography and painting. She loved her family and doted on her grandchildren, inspiring them to pursue their dreams, especially education.

Anna will be remembered for her kindness and belief in the honesty and inherent goodness of all human beings. She loved learning and art and shared her gifts freely with others. All who knew her will be inspired to reach out and help others because of her example.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, July 18th with a Mass at 10:30 A.M. in Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Notre Dame Educational Bridge Center, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting with arrangements.
