Albert “Sarge” Sargentelli, 88, of 669 Washington St., Auburn, died unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, March 10. Prior to living in Auburn, he resided in St. Petersburg, FL and Worcester, MA.

After growing up on Wall St. in Worcester, Albert became a United States Naval recruit and served our country from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. Following his years with the Navy, he worked at miscellaneous jobs until he became a machinist for Morgan Construction Co. on Crescent St. in Worcester. He remained there for 30+ years until his retirement.

Tennis, dancing, and bowling (ten pin and candlepin) were Albert’s favorite pastimes. When he was a young man he also enjoyed fishing with his brother-in-law Jimmy and later, his son Michael. In addition, Albert participated in both recreational and competitive roller skating with his daughter Robin.

Albert leaves his daughter Robin (Sargentelli) Gibbons of Spencer and her husband Bill, as well as four grandchildren: Kyle and his wife Jackie of Charlton, William of Somerville, Sarah of Sheffield, and Joshua of Providence, RI, as well as his sister Joyce Besso of Worcester, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years Mary (Hjelm), his son Michael, his father Michael, his mother Linnie (Sunderland) Tomporis, his stepfather Jack Tomporis, and his brother Jerry. Most recently, he lost his girlfriend of 20 years, Lina Minardi, when she passed in January of 2023.

Albert stayed close to his wife’s family after her passing and was still in contact with Dr. James Hjelm and his wife Jane of Laurel, MD, Madeline DiSalvio of Worcester, and Donna Dion of Worcester.

Calling hours are Friday, March 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 16, with a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
