David P. Benson, 79, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his son, David Benson, on January 2, 2026; his daughter, Amanda Eslick, on January 3, 2024; his sister, Darlene Benson; and his brother, Army Specialist Dennis Benson, who was killed while serving in the Vietnam War. Born in Worcester on February 21, 1946, he was the son of Earle and Dorothy (Bergstrom) Benson and was raised in the Manchaug section of Sutton, and also lived for several years in Worcester. He was educated in the Sutton public school system and later proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War era, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. He was employed by the Okonite Company in Worcester, where he worked as a machine operator. He enjoyed playing video games, attending movies with his family, and playing card games—especially cribbage. He had a deep appreciation for nature and took pleasure in feeding the birds. A devoted food enthusiast, he greatly enjoyed sharing meals. Known for his generosity, he supported numerous charitable organizations throughout his life. The Family would like to thank the VNA Hospice and Rose Monahan staff for-their outstanding care given to David. In accordance with his wishes, David will be cremated and his burial will be held in Worcester County Memorial Park, at a later date.
