Janice M. (Charlonne) Hurd, 88, of Gardner, died peacefully Thursday, April 30, 2026, in UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital in Leominster, after an illness. Born in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, on January 17, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Pauline (Cote) Charlonne. Janice was an assembler employed by Avery Dennison of Fitchburg for many years until her retirement. She was previously employed by Kamenstein, Ray’s Plastic, and several area nursing homes, including the Leo P. LaChance Center, Eastwood Pines, and Parker Hill Nursing Home. Janice was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish of Gardner and St. Patrick Catholic Church of Jaffrey, New Hampshire. She enjoyed keeping active through cross-stitching, knitting, reading, and cooking. Above all, Janice’s greatest love was her family, especially her two precious great-grandchildren. She cherished the many memories, moments, and special times they shared together. Janice is survived by her two daughters, Darlene M. Thomas and her husband, Robert, of Gardner, and Donna L. Casey and her partner, Robert Speed, of Winchendon; two sons, Frederick E. Hurd Jr. and his partner, Tina Scanlan, of Gardner, and Mark E. Hurd of Hudson, NH; four grandchildren, Neil J. Thomas and his wife, Jessica, Alan M. Casey and his wife, Veronica, Samantha M. Thomas and fiance MJ Clark, and Wade J. Casey and his wife, Kayla; two great-grandchildren, Clara Thomas and William Casey; a sister, Marcia Charlonne of Brattleboro, VT; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Frederick E. Hurd, who died in 2005; six sisters, Mary Lewis, Carolyn Haselton, Joan Ladeau, Sheila Charlonne, Patricia Dyer, and Colleen Hardy; and four brothers, Edward, Gerald, Vernon, and Francis “Bob” Charlonne. Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
