ELANIE M GEORGE (LAWYER)

On the morning of January 16, 2026, Virginia kept a promise to former roommate Elaine George to “bust her out of the Pines at Bristol.” Instead of getting one of her son’s work ladders, it appears she managed to extend one from Heaven. No doubt Elaine’s late husband, Victor George himself, climbed down immediately and swept Elaine off her feet again, carrying her gently up to their new eternal home. We are confident that she is in awe of her new pain-free existence and blissfully reuniting with the many loved ones she has missed for so long, with Victor at her side.

Elaine was born on January 7, 1945, in Framingham MA, to the late Donald and Bernice Lawyer. She lived most of her life in MA, graduating from Northbridge High School, Class of 1962 Elaine enjoyed working- first as a secretary at Whitin Machine Works and the former Becker Junior College. After raising her children, she returned to work for a few years as a dietary aide at Holden Nursing Home.

She married the love of her life, Victor George, in May of 1965. He was a hard-working and devoted husband. As Elaine’s health declined, he took on the role of her caregiver, until his own illness and subsequent passing in 2022.

Shortly after Victor’s passing, Elaine moved to Connecticut, where her “CT grandchildren” got to have their own Nana-time and Tuesday Night Crossword Puzzles became a thing.

Besides her husband, Elaine was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Lawyer, Jr. and Charles Lawyer.

Elaine is survived by four children: Jennifer Cote and her husband, Michael of Terryville, Michael George and his wife, Kerrina of Rutland, MA, Julie Reno and her husband, Michael of Holden, MA and Matthew George and his wife, Lindsey of Dudley, MA; a sister: Patricia Chaput of Connecticut; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters- in-law Florence Rucho and Frances George of MA, and several nieces and nephews.

Her greatest joy in life was her role as mother and grandmother. She was known as a great listener, always willing to lend an ear to anyone who needed it. She took pleasure in watching birds at the feeder, eating chocolate candy, and cheering on the Patriots.

Elaine’s family would like to thank the staff from Brighton Hospice who provided comfort and support during these last few months. We thank Fr. Crowley, who ministered to her over the past three years. We are grateful to a number of staff at the Pines, especially- but not limited to- certain third and second floor aides, nurses, housekeeping team members and a social worker- who all went above and beyond to show Elaine love and provide care to her family members during her final weeks. While we would have liked to have mentioned you by name, the fear of accidentally leaving someone out prevents us from doing so. Know that your extraordinary acts of kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

Relatives and friends may call on Thursday (January 22, 2026) between 9:30 and 10:45 AM at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM at St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, 1 E. Main St., Thomaston. Burial will be private in Worcester Memorial Park in Paxton, MA.
