Brian J. Hawkesworth, 74 of Dennis, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023 surrounded by his loving family and close friends at Cape Cod Hospital. He was born in Worcester on November 14, 1948 son of the late Elmer J. Hawkesworth and Dorothy (Rogers) Hawkesworth. He graduated from South High School in 1966 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in July 1966. Brian proudly served in Vietnam at Chu Lai and the Tet Offensive. He was honorably discharged in August 1969. Brian was employed for thirty years by Commonwealth Gas Co. After retiring and moving to Cape Cod he was the sole proprietor of Comfort Home Inspection. Brian cherished time with his family and meeting his friends every morning for coffee. He loved to golf and volunteered as a Marshall traveling to many championship tournaments including the Masters, US Open, British Open, and ProAm. Brian was quick witted and a man of many talents. He was always available to help his family and friends. He was passionate about serving veterans as past commander of DAV Ch.96 and AM Vets Ch. 333. He devoted the last ten years to assisting veterans, their widow’s and dependents as a DAV representative. Brian was the project Chair for the Dennis Field of Honor with proceeds going to local veteran charities. He is survived by his children, Jennifer L. Corbett and her husband Patrick of Spencer, Kristin Hawkeworth Summ of Trumbull CT; three grandchildren John (Jack) G. Summ Jr. and Wyatt H. Summ of Trumbull, CT and Kyle JS. Corbett of Hubbardston. Brian was predeceased by his brother Steven E. Hawkesworth. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 1-4pm followed by a service beginning at 4pm with military honors at Doane, Beal and Ames, 729 Route 134, South Dennis, MA. A private burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family in Worcester County Memorial Park. |
