SYLVESTER J. DWYER

      Sylvester J. Dwyer, 87, of Framingham and formerly of Worcester, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Mary Ann Morse Nursing Center, Natick.

Sylvester leaves his wife, Mary Ann (Leo) (Lawless) Dwyer; three children, Timothy J. Dwyer and his wife Debra of Worcester, John Dwyer of West Brookfield, and Maureen Floyde and her husband William of Barre; three stepchildren, Thomas Lawless and his wife Cheryl of Framingham, James Lawless and his wife Elizabeth of Henderson, Nev., and Maria Malm and her husband Gregory of Templeton; 15 grandchildren, Caitlin Carter, and Timothy and Patricia Richardson; Sylvester, Adeline, Molly and Finola Dwyer; Meaghan, Patrick, Kylie and Brendan Dwyer; Brittney Lawless; and Ashley and Christopher Malm; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Foran of Worcester and Catherine Nolan of Vermont.

His first wife, Margaret (Mullahy) Dwyer, died in 1991. His sister Margaret Dwyer died in 1975.

Sylvester was the first child born in Worcester in 1930. He was the son of the late Patrick and Mary (Donoghue) Dwyer. He grew up in Auburn, and later lived many years in Worcester before moving to the Framingham area.

He was a graduate of Auburn High School and served in Korea with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Sylvester worked 40 years for the New England Telephone Co., retiring in 1991. He was a member of Ashland Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed gardening and reading and followed the New England professional sports teams. Most importantly, he was devoted to his family and especially loved the time he could spend with his grandchildren.

Calling hours are Thursday, May 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be held Friday, May 26, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
