ANNIE P. CULHANE (GUIDOIN)

     Annie “Mamie” Pauline (Guidoin) Culhane died peacefully at home on April 19, 2015 after a short illness. She was born on December 3, 1922 in Paris, France to Marcel and Suzanne Guidoin. She spent her childhood in Paris where she was a student at the Sorbonne and enjoyed the company of her cousins before having to relocate to her maternal ancestral home in central France during World War II. As a young woman, Annie came to the United States to study English at American University, where she met her future husband, James Culhane. She settled in Worcester, where she raised her four children and later, three of her grandchildren. In her later years, Annie became an extensive traveler, making trips to France, Spain, Greece, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. She also went on safari to Africa with her son, Patrick, and more recently, on a cruise to Alaska accompanied by her childhood friend and cousin, Simone Rémon. Having a true ‘joie de vivre,’ she loved to cook and took pride in making a small, simple seed grow into a beautiful flower. Annie created a sense of warmth and kindness wherever she went, and she was happiest when spending time with her family.

She leaves her three children: Patrick Culhane of Worcester, Gabrielle Culhane Norgren and her husband, Donald Norgren of Worcester, and Veronique Culhane Pitney and her husband, Timothy Pitney of Shrewsbury. She also leaves her ten grandchildren: Stefan Georgules, Christopher Georgules, Audrey Georgules, Natasha Norgren, Ariana Norgren, Vanessa Norgren Van Someren, Katherine Pitney, Julia Pitney, Jack Pitney and Eric Pitney; and her seven great grandchildren: Lily, Hannah, Sophie, Elizabeth, Brynn, Ian and Benjamin with another one on the way. She is predeceased by her daughter, Elizabeth Culhane and her sister, Paulette Véret.

Annie’s family would like to thank the Jewish Hospice Service especially Sister Jane and Renee for their gentle and compassionate care.

Funeral arrangements will be out of Rice Funeral Home on 300 Park Avenue in Worcester. The wake will be held on Thursday, April 23rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on Friday, April 24th at 10:00am at Christ the King Church on 1052 Pleasant Street in Worcester with burial to follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
