Thomas W. Henighan, 74, of Worcester passed away on August 1, 2012 in his home surrounded by the love of his family and the Lord, after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He is survived by his four children: Bridget M. Smith, Kerry A. Brennan and her husband Francis, Maureen C. Grenier and her husband Christopher and Thomas P. Henighan; three grandchildren: Norah and Molly Brennan and Evan Smith; a sister Alice Aubuchon and her husband Ronald of Leominster; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was born in Clinton, MA, a son of Thomas and Mary (Walsh) Henighan.

Tom graduated from Clinton High School. After HS, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He then graduated from Worcester State College with a teaching degree. Tom was a math and science teacher for the Shrewsbury School System for the next 25 years. After retiring, he worked for the Lancaster House of Corrections for 10 years.

Tom had a passion for sports. He was an All-Star Athlete for Clinton High School in baseball and basketball. He then coached Shrewsbury High School and American Legion Baseball for several years, taking his teams to numerous championships. In 2010, he was inducted into the Shrewsbury Hall of Fame for coaching. Later in life, he enjoyed golfing and swing dancing. He was a huge Red Sox and Celtics fan throughout his entire life.

Tom was a devoted Catholic. He was a member of the Marian Community and attended mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus-St. Catherine of Sweden Parish.

Tom will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his devotion to God, his sense of humor and million-dollar smile, and all things Irish!

The funeral will be held on Monday, August 6, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus- St. Catherine Of Sweden Parish, 600 Cambridge St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday, August 5, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
