     Richard V. Tilton, Sr., 88, died on Sunday, June 10, 2012, in the Life Care Center of Auburn, after an illness. His first spouse, Marguerite E. (Allen) Tilton, died in 1975. His second spouse, Lillian M. (Jubinville) Tilton, died in 2003. He leaves four children: Richard V. Tilton, Jr. of Sturbridge, Barbara E. Duclos of Bridgewater, Cheryl A. Harscheid of South Windsor, CT, and Raymond J. Tilton of Chepachet, RI; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Vaughn Tilton of South Lincoln, ME; and nephews and nieces. In addition to his spouses and his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Steven D. Tilton of Warren, four brothers, and three sisters. Born in Lincoln, ME, a son of the late Raymond P. and Nellie B. (Reed) Tilton, he was raised there and later lived in West Enfield, ME. He then lived in Adams, North Adams, and Sturbridge before moving to Millbury in 1971. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater. He was stationed in England and then fought in France and Germany before he was honorably discharged at war’s end.

     Mr. Tilton was an ironworker for 30 years, working out of Ironworkers Local #57/Local #7 in Worcester. Before that, he was a logger and millworker in Lincoln and West Enfield for several years. He enjoyed walking, horseshoes, pool, poker and trips to Florida.

     He will be buried in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, on Thursday, June 14, after a graveside service at 1:00 P.M. The Reverend J. Clifford Davis, Jr., Pastor of Millbury Federated Church will officiate. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made either to the American Cancer Society , Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 (www.cancer.org) or to the American Heart Association , 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 (www.heart.org). Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main St., is assisting with the arrangements.
