Marion B. (Berthiaume) Gilrein 87 of Worcester passed away with her loving family by her side on Friday, August 12, 2011 at UMass Medical Center. She leaves her devoted husband of 64 years, Timothy F. Gilrein and six children. Timothy J. of Holland, Marybarbara Hughes and her husband David of Fitchburg, Virginia Yamiolkowski and her husband Edward of Groton CT., Thomas M. of South Barre, Ann T. Murphy and her husband James of Paxton, John F. and his wife Barbara of Spencer. She leaves eleven grandchildren, Jennifer A. Wilson of Oakham, Shannon M. Payne and Alanna Robbins of Holland, Zachary C. Hughes of Hebron ME., Meghan E. Hughes of San Francisco CA., Katherine I. Hughes of Fitchburg, Sarahbeth, Jessie and Peter Yamiolkowski of Groton CT., Margaret M. Murphy Lyons of Worcester and James T. Murphy of Dania Beach, FL. And six great grandchildren, Liam and Norah Wilson, Matthew and Connor Payne, Luke Hughes and Hunter Robbins. Several nieces and one nephew and her loving Godchild Candace Geshlin. She was predeceased by her brother Arthur Berthiaume and two sisters, Madalyn Lupien and Naomi Genduso. Marion was born in Worcester the daughter of the late Arthur and Ida Mae (Webster) Berthiaume and spent most of her life in Worcester. Marion graduated in 1943 from the former high school of Commerce and Salters Secretarial School. Marion worked as a secretary in the medical and legal fields and retired from the Worcester Public Schools after seventeen years of service as a secretary at Lincoln, Freeland and the former Downing Street Schools. She was a devoted and active parishioner of St. Peters Parish where she taught CCD for 35 years and was a Eucharistic Minister. Marion held a Master Catechist certificate through the Worcester Diocease. She organized and headed a network of people to service the Prayer Line. She and her husband Tim were active participants in the Marriage preparation for young couples, through the Couple to Couple Program. She was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Senior Center. Marion was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who cherished spending time with her family. She was a humble woman of deep faith, compassion and selfless generosity. She was a loyal and trusted friend who mentored many and was an inspiration to all. Marion’s family would like to thank all her caregivers but especially Alicia Bonnevile. Visiting Hours for Marion will be held on Monday, August 15, from 5-7 at CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. Worcester. The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 16 at 10:00 am, at St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main St., following with Christian burial at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
