John D. Avakian, 86, of Worcester and formerly of Webster, died Saturday, January 19, 2008 in the Odd Fellows Home. His wife Georgia N. (Mitchell) Avakian died many years ago. He was born in Northbridge, son of Peter and Catherine (Oskoian) Avakian. He graduated from Northbridge High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Avakian was a machinist at Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville and later a tool and die maker for Worcester Tool & Die Co. before his retirement in 1985. He leaves nephews, nieces and many dear friends. There will be a graveside service Friday, January 25 at 11 a.m. in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., is directing arrangements. | |
