William D. Doherty, 80, of 55 Pine Ave., Cherry Valley a section of Leicester, died Tuesday, July 3 in Parsons Hill Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Hazel M. (Hemstead) Doherty; three sons: Jay P. Doherty and Daniel E. Doherty, both of Cherry Valley, Ross W. Doherty and his wife Pollysean of Worcester; three sisters: Mildred Sampson and her husband Edward of Worcester, Lorraine Gangai and her husband Dr. Maurow of Kerrville, TX., Phyllis Hundemer of Coco, Fl.; two grandchildren: Aimee Giza and her husband Matthew of Worcester and Jake Doherty also of Worcester, several nieces and nephews.
Born in Boston, he was the son of Philip T. and Mildred (Ross) Doherty. Mr. Doherty was a tree surgeon for 60 years and worked at Averka Tree in Worcester and for five years owned and operated Blackstone Tree, retiring in 1988. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and was stationed on an oil tanker in the Pacific Theatre.
A funeral service will be Friday, July 6 at 10 a.m. in the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester. A calling hour will be from 9-10 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Please omit flowers.
