James M. Glass, 88, of 4 Nick Alan Circle, died unexpectedly after a brief illness on Monday, March 19, 2007, in Florida Hospital, Orlando. His wife of 47 years, Norma J. (Clemons) Glass, died in 1992. He leaves three daughters, Diane P. Arachy and her husband Charles of Rutland with whom he lived, Linda H. Barbieri and her husband Robert of Deland, Florida, and Kathleen A. McGowan and her husband Nicholas of Orlando, Florida; two sisters, Elvira Lewis of Smith, AL and Penelope Posinski of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, James Barbieri and his wife Melissa, Gina Compton and her husband Mark, Joshua Barbieri and his wife Allison, Christina Green and her husband Tony, Alan Bounville and his companion Joey Gomez; nine great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, John Glass, a sister, Ethel Eby and a grandson, Michael Whittemore, predeceased him. He was born in Chambers County, Alabama, and lived 54 years in Worcester and several years in Rutland. Mr. Glass worked 26 years at Worcester Felt Pad Co. and 10 years at Charlton Wool Co. as an assistant foreman. He later worked several years at the Holden Post Office, retiring in 1999. He was a member and Past Commander of the Walter J. Swift Veterans of Foreign Wars in Shrewsbury, attended the Holden Chapel and was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Shrewsbury. He regularly attended the Rutland Senior Center and was an avid hunter, fisherman and bowler. He was a World War II Navy Veteran serving aboard the U.S.S. Putnam in the European and Asiatic Pacific theatres. He was proud of serving his country and enjoyed sharing his Naval experiences. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 24 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. The funeral services are private with burial in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210. |
