Gaetano "Guy" J. Castellani, Sr., 86, 535 East County Road, died at home on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, after an illness. His wife of 30 years, Theresa E. (Handy) Castellani, died in 1976. He leaves three sons, Gaetano J. Castellani, Jr. of Caroga Lake, New York, Anthony A. Castellani of Holden and Vincent P. Castellani of Athens, Tennessee; a daughter, Lillian A. Ikonen of Hubbardston; a brother, Nunzio Castellani of Redlands, California; two sisters, Julia Arsenault of Worcester and Carmella Zolla of Wilbraham; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A brother, Joseph Castellani, predeceased him. He was born in East Douglas, son of Amedio and Anna Mary (Fresolo) Castellani, and lived in Rutland for 47 years. Mr. Castellani was a World War II Army veteran serving in the European African Middle Eastern theatres where he was awarded a bronze arrowhead. For many years he was a machine operator for Wayne-Roy in Hubbardston. Previously, he worked as a general foreman in construction. The funeral for Mr. Castellani will be held on Monday, March 19, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 290 Main St., Rutland. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, in the funeral home.
