George A. Bisceglia, 82, of Worcester, a retired Worcester Police Officer, died peacefully Thursday, November 23, 2006 at University Commons surrounded by his family. George is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Stella R. (Ferraro) Bisceglia, two sons, George A. Bisceglia, Jr. and his wife Laura of San Jose, CA and Brian Bisceglia and his wife Ann, of Holden; one daughter, Theresa Bisceglia and her husband Danny DePalo of Worcester; three sisters, Mary "Dolly" Charamella and her husband Francis "Charpy" of Shrewsbury, Ann Rana and her husband John, and Louise Desto wife of the late Joseph Desto, all of Worcester; half-sister Marion Tricomi and half-brother Morris Bisceglia. George is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Ashley Doucette, Courtney Bisceglia, Tamera Jennings, Joseph Dooley III, Anthony and Matthew Bisceglia, and Valerie Sophos and three great-grandchildren, Desiree and Marrissa LeBoeuf and Jonathan Doucette and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a brother, Sylvester Bisceglia and a sister, Angela "Angie" Esposito. George was born August 17, 1924 in Shrewsbury, MA, son of Nicholas and Mary (DeSalvio) Bisceglia and lived in Worcester most of his life. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School and was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a Worcester Police Officer for over 35 years, retiring in 1989. He was once recognized for the delivery of triplets while on duty. George was a longtime member of Our Lady of Loreto Church, the Eastside Post #201 American Legion, and the Massachusetts Police Association. He was an avid golfer and gardener. The Bisceglia family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of University Commons for all the wonderful care George received there. George's funeral will be held Wednesday, November 29, from the Mercadante Funeral Home and Chapel, 370 Plantation Street with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in Our Lady of Loreto Church 33 Massasoit Road. Calling hours in the funeral home are 5-8pm on Tuesday, November 28, Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Members of the East Side Post#201 will meet at 7PM for a Ritual.
