Paul R. Bottis Sr., died Saturday October 21, 2006 in Sterling Health Care Center. He was born in Worcester July 26th 1922 son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Thibodeau) Bottis. Paul was predeceased by his wife Lena (Falcone) Bottis in 1968, and a brother Arthur Bottis. Paul leaves seven children Paul Jr. and his wife Donna of Leicester, Michael of Key West Florida, John and his wife Santa of Worcester, Joan Gray and her Husband Louis of Phoenix Arizona, Diane Cino and her husband David of Templeton Ma, Susan Hiitt of Tucson Arizona, and Elizabeth Sanchez and her husband Valentino of Webster. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and one brother Richard Bottis of California.

Paul was an army veteran having joined the Massachusetts National Guard in June 1940. During WW II he was a staff sergeant with the Fifth Armored Division, Fifteenth Armored Infantry Battalion, Company B. His unit landed on Normandy Beach in June of 1944 and on VE day had worked its way to the Elbe River forty five miles from Berlin. Of the 138 men in his company that landed on Normandy Paul was one of three to make it to VE day. During the Battle of the Bulge Paul’s outfit saw fierce fighting in the Hurtgen Forest. Among Paul’s battle citations was the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

Paul and his family survived the Worcester Tornado in June 1953. Living at the time at 3 Great Brook Valley Ave. Paul was a longtime member of Carpenters local union 107, serving for many years as the treasurer of the union. He later, with his three sons, formed Homecraft Company, building houses in Worcester County.

Paul was a long time social advocate who through his web site, taxmoney-notpeople.com, advocated the elimination of the United States payroll tax in favor of a small tax on all monetary transactions. Paul was a frequent writer of letters to the editor in the Worcester T&G.

Arrangements are being handled by Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street Worcester. At Paul’s request there will be no calling hours and burial will be at Worcester County Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
