VICTOR F. BISHOP

Victor F. “Butch” Bishop, 65, of Shrewsbury, passed away Monday, May 8th surrounded by his family in St. Vincent Hospital.

Victor is survived by his children, Worcester Police Officer John P. Bishop and his wife, Lynne, and Aggregate driver Joseph A. Bishop, both of Worcester, Jodi M. Laflash and her husband, Peter of Oxford, James W. Bishop and his wife, Jennifer of Leicester; a sister, Dianna C. Bishop of Shrewsbury, with whom he lived; seven grandchildren: Johnny, Nicholas, Deena, Justina, Samantha, Kyle and Avery; his former wife, Patricia (Sullivan) Bishop; three nieces: Victoria, Natasha, and Alexandra. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Victor W. and Janet (Patruno) Bishop. He attended Shrewsbury high school, served in the U.S. Army and lived most of all life in Worcester and Shrewsbury.

Victor was a truck driver for more than 40 years for the Teamsters Local 170, before retiring in August of 2003. He worked from the P.I.E. Company 29 years and 25 of those years as shop steward. The Spiniello Construction and Bechtel Companies before retiring.

Besides being a active member of the Teamsters Local 170, he served as a shop steward, on the Scholarship committee since 1969, co-founded the teamsters blood bank since 1969, served as a trustee, as a delegate to the joint council and teamsters conventions, an active member of the strike force, parade committee, and an instructor to more than 68 teamsters seeking their CDL drivers licenses. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church, the Eastside Improvement Club, Brown Square Civic Association, the Worcester Lodge of Elks 243, the Deputy Sheriffs Association, and the Worcester Aerie, Eagles Club #4311.
