Joseph Ernest Raidy, 83, of Wheelock Ct., died peacefully on Sunday March 26, 2006, in his home after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lorriane A. (Arnold) Raidy of Westborough; his daughter, Lorrie Ann Raidy of Westborough; two sisters, Inez Lloyd of Worcester and Elinor Raidy of Lake Elsinore, CA; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister Irene Cote. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Joseph E. and Esther L. (St. Germain) Raidy, and had lived in Oxford since 1952. He attended Millbury Street School in Worcester. Mr. Raidy was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a radarman, third class. During his service, he proudly assisted at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, after the attack in 1941. Mr. Raidy worked at Wyman-Gordon Company in Worcester for 38 years, retiring in 1987. For many years, he worked part-time as a security guard at the Lincoln Sheraton Hotel in Worcester. In his retirement, he was a truck driver for A.M.I. Leasing in Worcester. Mr. Raidy was a member of St. Roch’s Church in Oxford and was a member of the American Legion in Spencer. He played semi-professional baseball and football, and was invited to try-out with the Boston Braves. In addition to baseball and football, he enjoyed many sports, including wrestling in the Navy and bowling. |
