Zara F Johnson lived in Concord, North Carolina from 1919 until 1945, and graduated from Winecoff High School in 1937. Zara completed her Parachute Materiel Training in Lakehurst, New Jersey in July, 1943, as a member of the WAVES, U.S.N. She met her husband and soulmate, George Edward Johnson, she met while in the service. Mrs. Johnson moved from North Carolina to Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, in 1945, and spent many wonderful summers on Cape Cod, where her husband, George, died in 1975. She remained on the cape, and eventually remarried to Francis “Bud” Sims. they travelled frequently between the cape, New Hampshire, Maine, and Venice, Florida, where Bud owned a condo. After Bud’s passing, Zara remained in Venice until her death in 2005, surrounded by a community of very close and supportive friends. She was one of a kind, a hard-working woman who knew her own mind, and will be forever missed by her children, Zara Kilmurray, Jeff Johnson, and Lisa Tyler. |
