John M. Madonna Sr. 75 Worcester- John M. Madonna Sr. 75 of 27 Fourth St., who worked as a bridge forman and was a hospital volunteer, died Thursday in Memorial Hospital after he was stricken ill at Elm Park. His wife of 49 years, Mary (Gatto) Madoona, died in 1994. He leaves a son, John M. Madonna; a daughter, Diane M. Madonna, both of Worcester; a foster son, Brian Theirwechter of Sandwich; two foster daughters, Christine Theirwechter in Arizona and Jean Brown of Marshfield; six grandchildren; two greatgrandsons; nephews and nieces. He was born on Staten Island, N.Y., son of Annello and Maria (Ostragrizia) Madoona, and lived here more than 50 years. He was a bridge forman for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, where he worked for more than 27 years. He retired in 1986. He previously owned and operated John Madonna Aluminum Windows & Doors. Mr. Madoona was a long time volunteer in the Oncology Department of the University of Massachusetts Hospital. He was a daily communicant of Christ the King Church and a third -degree member of Pope John XXIII Council, Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Lodge 168, Order Sons of Italy in America, the Ellis Island Association in New York, and the Retired State County & Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts. The funeral will be held Monday from Mercadante Funeral Home , 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 11 a.m in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
