Roger Desmarais, 83, of Worcester, died Sunday, September 2, 2018, at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.

His wife, Eleanor C. (Wagner) Desmarais, died in 1996.

He leaves two daughters, Gail Wagner and Pamela Nosek; two granddaughters, Andrea Grubofski and Nicole Crosby and her wife Erica Crosby; three great-grandchildren, Arianna, Andrew and Emilie Merrill; four sisters, Laurie Rondeau, Irene Gervais, Ruth Armstrong and her husband Gil, and Sue Laferrier and her husband Ralph; his sisters in law Margaret Mattress and Louise Tula; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers Herve and Robert Desmarais, and three sisters, Doris Millette, Lucille Gagne and Therese Larence.

Roger was born in Worcester, son of Joseph and Anna (Laurence) Desmarais.

He worked for Reed Clariant Corporation in Holden from 1986 to 1999. Previously, he worked 12 years for Johnson Steel & Wire Co. in Worcester.

Roger lived for his family, a man who was more concerned about the welfare of those in need. He was a selfless man who was always taking care of everyone around him, and was known for his easy going and relaxed demeanor. Some of his fondest memories were taking his grandkids to different practices and sporting events where all the other kids called him grandpa.

The family wishes to thank all the staff of Notre Dame du Lac and Long Term Care as well as the hospice workers for their compassionate care of Roger.

There will be a memorial Mass Sunday, September 16, at 10:30 a.m. in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to St. John’s Food for the Poor Program, 44 Temple St., Worcester, MA 01604 or the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606.

The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
