Subscription Update Obituary

    June O. (Swift) Whalen, 77, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 27 surrounded by her family.

    She leaves her loving husband of 59 years, Raymond D. Whalen; four children, James and his wife Dr. Mary Whalen of Worcester, David Whalen and his wife Cindy of Auburn, Eileen Welton and her husband Mark of Marlborough and Thomas Whalen and his wife, Maria of Worcester; her sister, Carolyn Arcisz of Haverhill; nine grandchildren, Heidi Curry, Jessica Biziewski, Daniel Whalen, Emily Welton-Reis, Jacob Welton, Sarah Whalen, Kathryn Whalen, Meaghan Whalen and Jack Whalen and many nieces and nephews. Three children, Patricia, John and Jodi Whalen, four brothers, Joseph, Walter, Robert and Phillip Swift and a sister, Barbara Ledoux predeceased her.

    She was born in Holden the daughter of William and Florence (Soucy) Swift and graduated from St. Peter’s High School. Mrs. Whalen worked at Hahnemann Hospital as a switchboard operator before retiring. Previously, she worked in Fairlawn Hospital Admitting Department. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church. June enjoyed painting, ceramics, occasional trips to Mohegan Sun as well as vacationing at Old Orchard Beach. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and will be greatly missed.

    The funeral will be on Tuesday, March 2 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St with a Mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Interment will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting hours will be Monday, March 1 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
