Subscription Update Obituary

     Alfred J. Bianchi 102, formerly of Shrewsbury, died Wednesday April 21, 2021 at the Homestead Hall of Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, Alfred was the son of the late Alfred and Gertrude (Dowd) Bianchi. Alfred worked in the family business, running the former Italia Macaroni Company on Norfolk St.  He was a graduate of Commerce High School, and a 1941 Graduate of Syracuse University where he studied art, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree and fulfilling his desire and passion to become a commercial artist. Alfred was a commercial artist for Holmes Graphics from 1961 until he retired in 1983.

Alfred was a man of great faith and worshiped  at the former Belmont St. Baptist Church.  Through his love of art  he blessed many people with his creations, a few of which included portraits of family members, a mural of Jesus and His Disciples for the Baptist Church, a mural of Venice, and a canvas of his beloved wife Helen. Alfred will be remembered for his unique character, always playing jokes and pulling silly pranks. He loved horseshoes, checkers, Trivial Pursuit and various games.

Alfred was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen (McFadden) in 1994, one brother Raymond Bianchi, two sisters Irene Kokernak, and Connie Perrone, and grandson David Cordella Jr.

Alfred leaves his very large family including six children, Karen Lincoln and her husband Arthur, Ellen Steele and her husband Edward, Mary Jane Cordella and her husband David, Joan Barrell and her husband Robert, James Bianchi and his partner Noreen, and Joel Bianchi and his wife Leah.  He also leaves his brother John Bianchi and his wife Kathy.  Alfred also has 21 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The Bianchi family would like to thank the staff at Homestead Hall for their excellent care and compassion over the years for their father.

Funeral services for Alfred will be held on Wednesday April 28, 2021 at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. Worcester, Ma 01605.  Calling hours will be from 10-12 noon with a service to begin a 12 noon.  Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.  For those unable to attend on Wednesday , Alfred’s service will be “Live Streamed” by going to www.mercadantefuneral.com click on “Live Services” at 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions in Alfred’s memory to Homestead Hall Activity Fund, 10 Homestead Ave Worcester, Ma 01610.  Contributions can also be made to Visitation House, 119 Endicott St. Worcester, Ma 01610.
